According to police, after one of the wounded was pronounced dead at the hospital, tensions between the families involved escalated in Silwan. During the violence, suspects fired live rounds, shot fireworks, and threw Molotov cocktails. Police and Border Police forces operating in the area to restore public order and locate suspects identified two suspects who, according to police, posed an immediate threat to their lives while wielding knives and Molotov cocktails. The forces shot at them to neutralize the threat, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Large additional police forces were called to the scene, and police said public order has been restored. However, forces remain on high alert in the area amid concerns of renewed violence. Jerusalem District Commander Chief Superintendent Absalom Peled arrived at the scene and held a special situation assessment with force commanders and officers who operated there. During the assessment, Peled praised the fighters’ determination and their swift response to the suspects who threatened their lives.

The murder investigation has been assigned to the Kedem District’s Crime Fighting Unit.
