The Haifa District Attorney’s Office will file an indictment today (Monday) against Mohammed Switat, a 21-year-old resident of Shfaram, for active membership in the ISIS terror organization. The indictment comes after a joint investigation by the Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, and the Northern District Police’s Central Unit exposed the young man’s activities on behalf of the murderous terror group.
Switat was arrested on May 28 in an operation by the Shin Bet and Northern District Police. During his interrogation, investigators discovered he had pledged allegiance to ISIS multiple times while expressing support for the organization’s extremist ideology and regularly consuming content associated with it. The investigation revealed the depth of his identification with the organization’s goals.
The investigation also found that Switat didn’t limit himself to passive support but actively worked to advance the organization’s objectives. He posted ISIS content on social media, corresponded with other terror supporters, and vigorously worked to convince his friends and acquaintances to support his path and join activities on behalf of the organization.
In a joint statement, the Shin Bet and Israel Police said they “view with great severity any involvement of Israeli citizens in activity that endangers the security of the state and its citizens, and will continue to act according to the authority granted to them by law and will use all means at their disposal to bring to justice those involved in this activity.”
