Israeli forces killed Akram Bassam Sha’aban Yassin, a senior official in Hamas’s General Security Mechanism, in an airstrike in Gaza City on Tuesday. In recent months, Yassin had been working to advance terror operations against Israeli forces and civilians and to restore the organization’s military capabilities, systematically violating the ceasefire.

Yassin served as a senior terrorist in Hamas’s ‘General Security’ Mechanism, known as the Batkhal, considered one of the terror organization’s most central and secretive units. The mechanism is responsible for securing senior Hamas officials, moving them between emergency facilities, and gathering intelligence on security forces. The intelligence collected is used by the organization’s leadership in decision-making and in planning and executing terror operations against Israel.
Yassin’s elimination follows a strike Israeli forces carried out about four months ago, in which additional senior officials in Hamas’s ‘General Security’ Mechanism were killed. It’s part of an ongoing effort to strike at the mechanism’s leadership and weaken its operational and intelligence capabilities in the Gaza Strip.

The strike was carried out with intelligence guidance, after Yassin continued in recent months to work on restoring Hamas’s military capabilities and advancing terror activity. Before the strike, steps were taken to minimize harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance.
