More than 48 hours after reports of an attack on foreign diplomats in Judea and Samaria, security sources and Jewish residents point to partial footage, no formal complaint, and the troubling background of one participant.

More than 48 hours after reports of an alleged attack on diplomats and foreign activists in southern Hebron Hills, questions are mounting about the incident. Local sources claim it was a planned provocation designed to harm Jews and Israel in the international arena, though there’s no official determination yet about what actually happened.

According to local sources, the diplomats in question and activists arrived in the area without prior coordination with security forces, as is the common practice in Israel. Security forces say that uncoordinated arrival in a sensitive area can create deliberate friction and make it harder for security forces to ensure participants’ safety.

The footage released from the scene was filmed by activists identified with the far left and includes only short clips. Jewish local sources claim the videos don’t show clear physical violence against the diplomats themselves and don’t present the full picture of the incident.

No Formal Complaint and More Questions

Another question mark concerns the conduct of those who presented themselves as victims. According to the claims, no formal police complaint has been filed so far, and those involved haven’t fully cooperated with evidence collection.

It’s also claimed that enforcement authorities weren’t allowed to inspect the vehicle that was reportedly damaged during the incident. This detail raises questions but doesn’t prove by itself that the damage report is false.

Police and security officials haven’t yet presented a complete picture of the incident. It’s unclear whether a criminal investigation was opened, what testimony was collected, and what findings were gathered from the field.

Yesha Council: “French Victim” Identified with Anti-Israel Line

Meanwhile, the Yesha Council pointed to the identity of one of the participants in the incident, a radical left-wing French mayor, Bernard Baudoux. The council claimed the official is identified with a sharply anti-Israel line and has previously participated in events where messages supporting violent struggle against Israel were voiced.

According to the Yesha Council, there’s documentation of the Baudoux speaking alongside activists and organizations identified with support for terrorism against Israel. It’s also claimed he previously used a French city hall building to promote symbols identified with those same elements.

The council added that the Frenchman previously referred to the pager operation as “mass slaughter” and a “war crime,” and even appeared alongside elements who expressed support for the terrorist who critically wounded Neria Leiter, son of Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter.

The claims about Baudoux’s activities were presented by the Yesha Council, and it hasn’t been established at this stage that they’re directly connected to the incident in southern Hebron Hills. The circumstances of the confrontation itself still require full clarification, including collecting testimony, examining the footage, and gathering evidence from the field.

Meanwhile, local sources claim the incident is being presented in the international arena in a one-sided manner, even before a professional investigation was completed. On the other hand, if an attack or property damage did occur, enforcement authorities must investigate the case and bring those responsible to justice.
