Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu voiced support for Flávio Bolsonaro to become Brazil’s next president, expressing hope that the country would join an expanding network of partnerships between Israel and Latin American nations.
“I hope it happens soon with Flávio Bolsonaro winning the presidency in Brazil,” Netanyahu told C14’s Sophia Tupolev.
Asked whether a Bolsonaro victory could lead to an expansion of the Isaac Accords, a proposed framework for Israel’s partnerships with Latin American countries modeled on the Abraham Accords, Netanyahu said the process was already underway.
He pointed to growing ties with countries across the region, highlighting Argentina under President Javier Milei, whom he called an “extraordinary friend of Israel,” as well as developments involving Colombia.
Netanyahu said he expects the Isaac Accords to create “unbelievable opportunities” for Israel in Latin America, while predicting further expansion of the Abraham Accords in the Middle East.
Asked why additional countries might pursue agreements with Israel, Netanyahu attributed the interest to the country’s growing strength.
“People come to the strong. They don’t go to the weak,” he said, citing Israel’s military, intelligence, economic and technological capabilities.
Netanyahu added that Israel had transformed its strategic position since the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack, describing the country as “by far the most powerful country in the Middle East.”
