The European Union experienced an antisemitic incident during a memorial ceremony for victims of the October 7 massacre. During the ceremony, a Muslim member of parliament threw down the Israeli flag and stepped on it. Parliament officials responded: “We call on the Parliament’s presidency to impose sanctions without delay on this outrageous behavior.”
Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament who was born in Syria, was filmed this week throwing down and stepping on Israeli and European Union flags on European Parliament grounds—during an exhibition dedicated to the memory of victims of the October 7 massacre.

Parliament officials called for sanctions against her: “Outside the plenary hall, an event was held to commemorate the October 7 massacre—the largest antisemitic massacre of our century, carried out by Islamist terrorists. On the occasion of this event, Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan threw down the flag of the European Union and the flag of Israel.”
A member of the European Parliament from the Republicans party added: “Regardless of how we view the situation in the Middle East, throwing down the European Union flag on European Parliament grounds is clearly an unworthy act. Throwing down the Israeli flag at a memorial event for October 7 is a kind of complicity with those who seek to reimport the antisemitic hatred that created the darkest hours in the history of our continent. We call on the Parliament’s presidency to impose sanctions without delay on this outrageous behavior.”
