British police arrested a 25-year-old British-Iranian citizen Thursday on suspicion of involvement in the attempted attack near Royal Air Force Base Fairford. Local police added: “As we’ve made clear, we are examining all possible angles—including possible involvement of a foreign state.”
The development came after five men in their 20s were arrested following a report to police. Despite being caught near the base, the five were released on bail earlier this week. President Donald Trump expressed surprise that the suspects were released on bail.

The Iranian citizen’s arrest came after the Iran-leaning British Prime Minister said Iran may be behind the incident. Initial suspicions arose after the Revolutionary Guards said in July that the base had become an Iranian target—after American planes took off from it to bomb Iran.
According to details of the incident, the five initial suspects were found near the base with three booby-trapped commercial vans. The young men allegedly intended to break into the base and sabotage American bombers stationed there.
