The U.S. military completed a sweeping wave of strikes against targets in Iran overnight Wednesday, marking another escalation in the confrontation between Washington and Tehran. According to senior officials, the strikes hit around 100 targets, including two Iranian government oil tankers.

An American official said President Donald Trump approved a new “tanker for tanker” policy designed to deter Iran from attacking ships passing through the strait.
Targets hit included Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps air defense sites, radar systems, mine-laying equipment, military communications sites, anti-ship cruise missile launchers and drone launchers. According to the officials, the strikes degraded Iranian capabilities in the strait area and are expected to reduce the threat level to commercial shipping in the near term.

Meanwhile, Iran fired ballistic missiles and drones at American targets in the region, including bases in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq. According to American sources, most of the threats were intercepted or caused no casualties. Jordan reported that air defense systems intercepted some of the missiles that penetrated the kingdom’s airspace.

President Donald Trump addressed the strikes in a post on Truth Social, writing that he is not trying to force Iran back to the negotiating table. “I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing,” Trump wrote. He added: “They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?”
