Iran is examining the possibility of expanding its circle of attacks to Europe if U.S. President Donald Trump escalates the conflict and orders a renewed strike against the Islamic Republic, the Financial Times reported Wednesday morning.
1+According to the report, Iranian forces have examined potential targets in southeastern Europe, primarily Bulgaria, after the country last month approved the use of an air base for American refueling aircraft operations. Cyprus is also on the target list, after a British Royal Air Force base in Akrotiri was hit by a drone strike in March that Western officials assessed was Iranian but launched by one of the regime’s regional proxy organizations rather than directly from Tehran.
1+Meanwhile, Tehran is also examining the possibility of attacking undersea fiber optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz in case of further escalation, as senior regime officials increasingly believe that renewed fighting with the United States is only a matter of time.
