Israeli officials confirmed Thursday that Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s senior advisor and son-in-law, is expected to arrive in Israel next week. Kushner, accompanied by Peace Council Executive Director Nikolai Mladenov, will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for critical talks on the future of the Gaza Strip. The visit comes against the backdrop of unusual tensions that have emerged in recent days between the two over implementation of the American roadmap.
The friction between the leaders intensified after Netanyahu publicly rejected the Peace Council’s 15-point document. Netanyahu made clear that Israeli forces will not withdraw from the Strip until Hamas is completely disarmed.
