Israel’s Education Ministry launched proceedings today (Tuesday) to revoke the license and block funding for the Nur al-Huda school in Shuafat after inspections uncovered ties between individuals connected to the institution and associations and organizations identified with Hamas.
Among the findings was a connection to the “Lajnat Zakat al-Quds” association, which has previously been identified as linked to Hamas in Jerusalem, as well as involvement by “Human Appeal,” which Israel has designated as a prohibited Hamas organization. The Education Ministry also identified additional irregularities at the institution, including the use of unauthorized textbooks, and the employment of teaching staff without the required approvals.
The proceedings follow an investigation by Hakol Hayehudi and a campaign led by Knesset Education Committee Chairman MK Zvi Sukkot, who visited the school and demanded that the Education Ministry and security authorities investigate its alleged connections and the government funding it receives.
Sukkot welcomed the move, saying: “I said we would not allow the State of Israel to fund Hamas institutions—and I promised we would see this through to the end. Today, we are seeing the result.”
“A Hamas school will not exist in Jerusalem,” he continued. “We will continue to investigate, expose and act until every institution connected to terrorist elements is dealt with according to the law. There is no extraterritorial zone in the State of Israel, and certainly not in the heart of Jerusalem.”
For Sukkot, the message is clear: Jerusalem will not fund terror.
