The Houthi terrorist organization escalated its campaign against the Yemeni army and Saudi Arabia on Friday with missile and drone attacks targeting the eastern city of Marib, the outcomes of which have not yet been disclosed. This comes on top of another attack launched yesterday using the same weapons, which, according to Reuters, killed 30 Yemeni soldiers.
These attacks follow recent signs of weakness shown by the terrorist group over the past few days. Last week, the mysterious assassination of a senior commander in central Sanaa created anxiety among the terrorist leadership, which dispatched operatives to reinforce streets and establish checkpoints. According to Saudi media, this assassination was part of a series of targeted strikes—both successful and attempted—against Houthi commanders and terrorists.
Earlier this week, the Houthis suffered another military setback after launching a failed offensive operation. Terrorist operatives attempted to launch a surprise attack to seize Yemeni army positions, but government forces and local army troops successfully repelled the advance, killing five Houthi fighters.
Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war for over a decade following the Houthi takeover of the capital, Sanaa. Since then, the Yemeni government, operating from the city of Aden, has led an intense campaign with Saudi backing to regain control of the country. As part of this conflict, the Shia terrorist organization, directed by Iran, has repeatedly targeted neighboring Saudi Arabia—a conflict that recently escalated after the Houthis breached the air blockade imposed on them by Saudi Arabia.
