Hainan Airlines will resume direct flights between Israel and China starting next month, significantly expanding options that have been limited in recent years.

Good news for travelers, especially business passengers: Direct flight options between Israel and China are set to expand next month, with Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines returning to operations at Ben Gurion Airport. This is welcome news for passengers and business travelers, as very few direct flight options between the two countries have remained over the past year.

The airline will resume its Beijing-Tel Aviv route starting August 3, with three weekly flights. A day later, on August 4, it will also restart the Shenzhen-Tel Aviv route, also with three weekly flights.

Hainan’s return is expected to significantly increase the supply of direct flights to China, after El Al was nearly the only carrier operating a direct route between the two countries in recent months. The added competition could expand passenger options and help increase seat availability on these sought-after routes.

The Beijing and Shenzhen routes serve not only tourists, but also business travelers, importers and exporters, as well as passengers continuing from China to other destinations in East Asia through Hainan Airlines’ flight network. The carrier’s return joins the gradual wave of foreign airlines resuming operations in Israel in recent months, after an extended period of reduced activity due to the security situation.
