A meeting between senior IDF officers led by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and mayors from northern Israel was scheduled for Monday morning but was canceled overnight after most of the northern mayors declined to confirm their attendance.
The mayors said they canceled their participation in the meeting with the IDF chief of staff because they’re traveling to the Knesset to attend a hearing on benefits for residents of their region.
On Tuesday, the Knesset Finance Committee will attempt to merge proposed legislation on benefits for communities along the northern confrontation line with parallel benefits for Judea and Samaria. Northern mayors are demanding that the benefits available to their residents match those provided to Gaza border communities.
