A sophisticated bomb attack was narrowly averted Tuesday morning in the Shiloh area after a local resident spotted a trap designed to kill security forces responding to remove it.
The resident, driving toward the Esh Kodesh community, noticed a PLO flag placed suspiciously on the rear security gate. Familiar with similar tactics used in past attacks, he kept his distance and spotted an activation cable connecting the flag to an explosive device hidden nearby—a booby trap meant to kill anyone attempting to remove the flag.
Once alerted, the area’s security coordinator immediately mobilized security forces, who sealed off the area. Border Police sappers arrived under IDF protection and examined the suspicious object. After a professional assessment, the sappers confirmed it was an active explosive device and carried out a controlled detonation, fully neutralizing the threat with no casualties or property damage.
Police said the incident is part of a recent wave of similar attack attempts across Judea and Samaria. Security officials praised the citizen’s alertness and again stressed the critical importance of keeping distance and immediately reporting any suspicious object or flag placed in the area to prevent loss of life.
